ANTICA DIMORA STUCKY IN TREVISO
The Story of Antica Dimora Stucky
From its origins linked to Giovanni Stucky to its rebirth as a historic residence on the Restera, beside the River Sile. A story spanning more than a century, intertwined with the life, work and transformation of the Treviso area.

The Origins of Antica Dimora Stucky
The origins of Antica Dimora Stucky date back to 1894, when this building was established in the Sant’Antonino area, along the River Sile, in a place closely connected at the time to the commercial activities that linked Treviso with Venice.
This place is closely associated with Giovanni Stucky, a Swiss-born entrepreneur and financier who developed important grain-trading and milling businesses in the 19th century.
Its location along the Sile was no coincidence. The river was then a genuine waterway for transporting goods, and the Sant’Antonino port area played an important role in commercial links towards Venice.
What is now a residence surrounded by the tranquillity of the Restera thus preserves traces of a past in which the river was an essential part of the area’s economic life.

Giovanni Stucky, between Venice and Treviso
Born into a Swiss family, Giovanni Stucky moved to Italy and built his fortune in the grain and milling industries.
His name is particularly associated with Venice, where he established the famous Molino Stucky on Giudecca Island, which became one of the symbols of industrial Venice at the time.
But his story was not confined to the lagoon city. His interests and business activities also reached the Treviso area, where the presence of the River Sile provided a natural connection to the trade routes leading towards Venice.
Giovanni Stucky was also a prominent figure in the social and cultural life of Venice during his time, eventually becoming a promoter of the Venice Biennale.
His name therefore remains linked to a story that spans industry, commerce, culture and the local area, bringing together Switzerland, Treviso and Venice.
The Sile and the Ancient Port of Sant’Antonino
The River Sile played a fundamental role in the economic development of the area. Its waters connected Treviso with the lagoon and Venice, allowing goods and raw materials to be transported along the river.
The area around Sant’Antonino became an important point of exchange and transit. Even today, along the waterway of the Sile Morto, traces of the ancient quay of Sant’Antonino can still be seen, bearing witness to a time when the river served as a true commercial route.

From the Stucky Family to a New Family
After Giovanni Stucky’s death in 1910, his son continued the family’s activities. However, the economic events of the twentieth century, the 1929 financial crisis and the years of war led to the gradual decline of the businesses associated with the Stucky family and the sale of their properties.
It was in the aftermath of this period that the historic house in Treviso was purchased at auction by the maternal grandfather of the current owner, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its history.
